star wars outlaws
#star wars outlaws#kay vess#nix#did a brief detour into this game it isn't bad! but certainly lacks in polish for core loops. tutorialization pipelines are ass also#performance - also ass. had to play quality on ps5 for it to have any clarity at all. but the open world is gorgeous#and it certainly nails the very narrow target of horse girl star wars fantasy (ripping across tatooine on a speeder with a little Guy)#nix is everything I love him. modern star wars rarely captivates me but they do know how to do lil guys real well#my photos#star wars#also-also. would be remiss not to mention. never played a game with unregulated scope creep this noticeable before. it's baffling#I KNOW people crunched on this it's in the walls in the floorboards it's everywhere. unmitigated hodge podge of mechanics and pillars#and those pillars are often unbalanced between each other. storytelling payloads are an issue too. there's pre-rendered in-engine cutscenes#real-time in-engine cutscenes. and digic-produced full CG cutscenes. and their placement and prioritization feels insane and inscrutable#like three different teams were working on the game at the same time and never in congress or coordination#it also suffers from the open world 4th and 5th priority narrative payload issues - many secondary and sometimes even primary questgiving#and expository dialogues are in-game zoomed camera lipsync exchanges. or flavor text#on the other hand - surprisingly deft mission design itself? side quests reward either cosmetics or actual unlockable deployable skills#it has fleeting genes of a metroidvania spread across a wide open world in that sense. but only fleeting. the rep system is a smokescreen#and progression in general has a very open and unsatisfying end to it. this game needed less scope and maybe no space stuff at all#the resulting resource allocation adjustment would truly make for a captivating open world adventure. as it stands it feels like#a product of overworked people misusing mismanaged budgets and managing to sprinkle some love into it regardless#games should never be good on the merit of their perceivable seasoning of overwork and passion. that really only bakes a sadness cake

We live in a world where Gordon's siblings and cousins personalities are up for grabs in terms of interpretation, so everyone has that one chosen sibling/cousin who is The Insufferable Bitch Of All Time™ and I think that's magical.
Anyway, my version of Gordon essentially served as an educator/parental figure for his baby siblings up until he was brought to Sodor, with the majority of them being fairly amicable to him (some bonds were stronger, some inevitably drifted apart), and the later generations being more indifferent because they only had stories of him (and were 'raised' by the much older siblings that he nurtured).
The situation varies more with his cousins, since they were more familiar with Great Northern than they were Gordon.
On Ryan's side of the family, there's a good deal of respect since Gresley Tank Engines were taught to be mindful of their tender engine contemporaries and their "sensibilities" (it wouldn't do to sully the Gresley name by having an internal class war), while on Spencer's side it's... Well... Err...Very very complicated.
The sense of superiority that Mallard brought on after he broke Flying Scotsman's speed record tipped the balance, and put a bit of a strain on both sides of the coin so to speak... In fact, the one A4 that has shown any sense of respect for Gordon or any of his late (and still living) siblings is Sir Nigel Gresley. It's hard to get a read on the others since they'd rather be scrapped than show genuine emotion/vulnerability.
#Thomas and Friends#TTTE#gordon the big engine#ttte gordon#ttte gordon's siblings#ttte flying scotsman#ttte ryan#ttte spencer#spencer the silver engine#ttte mallard#ttte great northern#ttte sir nigel gresley#I like to think Gordon was in good terms with all of his siblings even if some of them drifted away from him overtime#which only made the loss all the more painful for him#there was no sibling he had any real conflict with and he loved them so dearly that losing them all and never getting#to say goodbye really shook him up and made him less open with others due to the potential pain of losing loved ones again#it's why big changes and news from the mainland scares him so much#it's also partially why his and scotsman's relationship is so strained nowadays#that said I do love the idea that the A4s are just LIKE THAT (looking at you Spencer and Mallard)#with Sir Nigel Gresley being the one good apple in a barrel of rotten ones#also the idea Spencer isn't even the worst one allows for a bigger scope of family drama that's fun to throw at Gordon#also Ryan is there too we love Ryan he's a very good cousin#anyway I'm rambling oops#headcanons

#i’ve been thinking about this for a bit#personally i’m absolutely biased towards anthropology. sociocultural misanthropologist…#i just think it fits with the broad scope of joshua’s displayed knowledge. like.#the people and culture and history of shibuya and the nature of humans on a broader scale. i think he’s human-fascinated#but excluding that i’m still inclined towards social sciences and humanities or rich bitch shit. fits the vibe#him playing music i know is a popular headcanon. because. yknow. Composer. Music. Noise. makes enough sense#GAME DESIGN. oh my god. that came to me in a flash right now thats so fucking funny.#communications would be so funny too. guy who iconically thinks it’s impossible to truly connect to other people. in communications. man#twewyposting#rambles#joshua#joshua kiryu#yoshiya kiryu#twewy#id be so interested to see someone make a case for something in stem#joshua is definitely stem smart too. considering all the times he translates minamimoto’s jargon#i wanna know the reasoning for envisioning joshua in biochemical engineering

i still don't think there's any implied dynamic funnier than whatever the hell was going on between zor and solaris. it tears me up. why does this multibillionare got beef with some swiss freak?? what's their fucking damage honestly?
solaris breaks her back making all manner of death traps and lethal inventions that she never signed onto zoraxis to make. and zor doesn't even give her a seat at their table, in the office where the controls for HER death engine have been installed. they send her up to space with a couple of crumbs and pond water for rations, and interns for a crew.
and in exchange she just sasses them out? it makes me delirious. i mean i would do that too but i would know full well i would be tempting death every time.
#ieytd#commander solaris#dr zor#guy who needs everyone on earth to be scared of them vs some swiss freak who's not#i do think they've gotten into some *very* cutthroat arguments... mainly about the scope and timeline of the projects they put her on#it is a miracle she did not die years ago#the death engine put the fear of god back in her but like. before that point-

gus/jesse AU where you think it's just going to be a wholesome domestic story about a mostly functional couple, but it's actually a slow burn to an unhappy ending, because even though Gus doesn't yell at or demean Jesse the way Walt does, at the end of the day, Gus accepts that he is the head of a crime syndicate, directly and indirectly a murderer, constantly at risk of being caught by the DEA or killed by rivals, a man who runs a business that cannot be justified on moral grounds. And Jesse can't live with that.
#breaking bad#'walt was RIGHT to feel threatened by gus he treated jesse so much better'#this is true but like at the end of the day 'interpersonally nice drug lord' is not a concept i'd want to leave unproblematized#the stakes of Breaking Bad are centered around this bourgeois morality; what will happen to this white suburban family#and one of the reasons i love gus is how he EXPANDS the scope of the show#like oh right this all affects hundreds of ppl in this city alone#ppl dealing the meth ppl buying it ppl working in gus's front operations ppl buying his chicken#it's an international business! it affects don eladio and all his boys and all the car dealerships and strip clubs they spend money at#and who can forget the german chicken dipping sauce engineers

also related to my last tags if youre wondering, yes part of the reason why Forces was rushed was because they spent so much time on Hedgehog Engine 2 that they kind of. Forgot. to make the game. like theres a reason why the first few stages like Sunset Heights look so pretty but then the rest are just Boxes
#very unfortunate. I would say it would be a better game if it had one more year in the oven but I dont know if thats true#the writing was on the wall#and then the Hedgehog Engine 2 in Forces doesnt look too much different from Unleashed’s first iteration of the Engine anyway#thank god they got their shit together by Frontiers#though I suppose they had to for the scope of the game and it being open-world#hydro.txt

i am a fucking genius
yall ever heat up a nice bowl of $0.69 cent soup and think, "hmm, this needs a nice slice of toast to go with it, add a little textural contrast" and then realize you don't own a toaster?
toaster is a glowy hot thing, space heater is also a glowy hot thing
it just works!

honestly i find everything about me being an adult and doing work stuff inherently fucking hilarious bc like its me but the fact i am going to TEACH. AT A UNIVERSITY. ME. TEACHING. imagine walking into an extra elective you picked up and having /me/ as your professor
#axel grinds on#would like to point out i did NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS#we got some funding somewhere somehow in conjunction with the uni#and i thought it was just to fuckin scope out the uni see if it was suitable for solar panels#and then its “hey good news youre gonna be teachin the architechture students about solar design”#so im like ??????????????? you want me to do WHAT#and then i realised aw fuck theyre architechture students am i gonna have to teach them physics i went into this from engineering so#everything about this is so fucking funny#like i know im an alumni of the university so theyre excited to get me to teach there but like#i am not a /good/ alumni i took 5 years to graduate and then got a mickey mouse without honours degree#because i was too stupid to understand the power grid and all that shit#they took pity on me after i failed the class TWICE and gave me the participation award of degrees#you want ME to TEACH???

everyone who has been memeing about the USDA soil textural triangle for approximately the past decade doesn't even know the best part: there's another entire classification system that is far more widely used and more important

#admittedly I have a lot of issues with the USCS and I still greatly prefer the USDA system but there are benefits#The USCS is designed for and used by engineers and geologists who care almost exclusively about the physical characteristics of the soil#The USDA system is largely preferred by agronomists ecologists and soil scientists as it can give more information#(when done in conjunction with a full soil profile description#that tell you a lot more about soil characteristics and near surface geology than the USCS is designed to do)#(though if you're just texturing out of a box then yeah we're all using the same sieves)#ultimately i am begrudgingly forced to use one over the other and i'll admit it's a lot faster and more suitable for the scope of projects#one thing I'm definitely not a fan of in this industry is how obsessed with budget cost and scope/quality of work all the time#fuckin. if i have to deliberate on underbidding another phase i because nobody will pay a fair rate on them in this market i will scream#dirtposting

#in the history of wars human had done unimaginable feat or gone painstaking length and efforts to sack or undo obstruction#take for example the lost legions of varus and how romans eventually sacked masada#those 2 were the fruits of engineering and brute labor#not necessarily ingenious but they got the job done and the enemy could not do anything to prevent them except delaying or rematch#masada is a simpler story and outcome#romans built a giant wall & ramp over a year in order to reach the top#I’ve floated the idea before to divert dnipro north#I’ll stop floating my think tank idea there because the rest is about scope and capability#I float this idea because it cannot be done secretly#and diverting dnipro is really a method of obstructing enough to allow mechanized units to move large number of units without hazard#ukraine#russia#taiwantalk

I hate games, actually. What do you mean this highly specific game I stumbled upon while browsing the switch eshop. that i have never heard of outside of right now. doesn't have a thriving and highly active tumblr fanbase >:(
#kismet talks#started playing Paradise Killer again. afraid to check the tag bc it might be empty AKGKAJFJ#this is about SO many games#its even worse bc im the one that found the game and played it. rather than watching a streamer play it (like chulip)#paradise marsh game#mythic ocean game#beasts of maravilla island#there are some that i havent really scoped out the tags for yet bc i havent played them recently#like Death's Door and Going Under#i also recently downloaded In Other Waters i looked it up in a search engine and saw exactly 2 pieces of fanart. not a good sign#i havent played it yet tho
